Hello and welcome! My name is Kelly Hogaboom and I’m a writer, sewist, wife, mother, kitchen-wench, and B-movie aficionado.
If you’d like a custom garment, please email me at kelly DOT hogaboom DOT org or call 360 500 3287. In the cases of many listings you see here, the listing indicates to the best of my ability the materials cost and the time I spent on the item. This is both to document the process and to give viewers an idea of what went into the creation.
Buying or requisitioning a garment supports my family (including a partner, two homeschooled kiddos, four cats, and one leopard gecko!) as well as my deep, deep, affection and practice of this wonderful craft. Any partnership we form will support custom-sewn items made for my children, friends’ children, and the donation of quality items to our local clothing bank.
Why kids’ clothes?
I have discovered a bit later in life (I’m 35) that I love kiddos and the way they cope with, react to, and thrive in the world. And kids need clothes; good, rugged, comfortable ones. A garment I make will outlast what you’ll find in common retail – and will also be the only one like it in the world (that’s pretty cool!). If you requisition something custom you and/or your child get to decide what you want and have it delivered to your doorstep! I can also make clothes for kids who are otherwise being underserved in the ready-to-wear department, such as plus-size or petite clients.
Why your stuff?
I tell potential customers or supporters to please peruse my sewing portfolio (flickr.com/photos/kellyhogaboom/) before considering bringing my work into their home. If you don’t like what you see, I likely can’t fulfill your particular vision. These clothes are my efforts and I retain rights to select fabric and design; in the case of made-to-measure custom, these selections will feature your input of course. My techniques are on display and you can judge them for yourself. One of the benefits of owning one of my pieces is for each one I show some of the ins and outs of exactly how I made your item!
Payment: accept Paypal, money orders & personal checks. If you want to live dangerously you can mail well-hidden cash. Please make check/money order payable to Kelly Hogaboom (PO Box 205 Hoquiam WA 98550).
Do you do stuff for free?
Yes, if the cause is right and I have the time! Email me at kelly@hogaboom.org or call 360 500 3287.
Do you do international shipping? What about insurance?
I can do both these things, but I do not pay for either. If insurance is not available or selected as per customer’s preference and there is a loss or damage to the piece, and you have paid for a piece, I will refund you half your payment.
Partnership:
In the case of custom items the customer will be responsible to take measurements of their children (unless the customer and I are geographically close enough I can do it myself). This needs to be done with the utmost care because it would be sad to receive a custom-sewn piece of art that won’t fit! I will send information on how to take measurements properly. In the case of custom-made-to-measure clothing, I ship finished items in two weeks or less from last email securing details and client measurements and/or supplies are acquired.
Returns et cetera:
All commissioned and paid work – made-to-measure custom and one of a kind pieces – can be returned up to seven days past delivery date for a full refund, for any reason. Customer pays return shipping.
Thank you so much for looking at my work here. Sewing is a deep love I’ve had since I was a child. I hope to clothe more kids in well-loved clothes and spread the love of garment-sewing to as many as I can!
