Hello and welcome! Please read these policies in full and save us both some time.
Briefly: I typically charge $20/hour plus the cost of materials. Garments ship within one week of the client receiving my confirmation email (after I have the measurements I need, and provided there are no unusual circumstances like a specific hard-to-get fabiric etc). I have a 100% return policy; the client can return the garment for remuneration in full, minus shipping costs, within one week of receiving the piece(s). If you’d like to see more of my worksmanship you can look at my sewing portfolio. You can contact me at kelly@hogaboom.org or through text/phone at 360.500.3287.
A few more details! My name is Kelly Hogaboom and I’m a writer, sewist, wife, mother, kitchen-wench, and B-movie aficionado.
Buying or requisitioning a garment supports my family (including a partner, two unschooled kiddos, four cats, one pointer mix dog, and one leopard gecko!) as well as my deep, deep, affection and practice of this wonderful craft. Any partnership we form will support custom-sewn items made for my children, friends’ children, and the donation of quality items to our local clothing bank.
Why kids’ clothes?
I have discovered a bit later in life (I’m 35) that I love kiddos and the way they cope with, react to, and thrive in the world. And kids need clothes; good, rugged, comfortable ones. A garment I make will outlast what you’ll find in common retail – and will also be the only one like it in the world (that’s pretty cool!). My specialty is one-of-a-kind clothes for kids who are otherwise being underserved in the ready-to-wear department, such as plus-size or petite clients.
Why your stuff?
I tell potential customers or supporters to please peruse my sewing portfolio (flickr.com/photos/kellyhogaboom/) before considering bringing my work into their home. You need to know if you like my artistic expression before you commit to it. In addition, my techniques are on display to help others learn the craft, and to show you the love and commitment I put into my work. One of the benefits of owning one of my pieces is for each one I show some of the ins and outs of exactly how I made your item!
I accept Paypal, money orders & personal checks. Please make check/money order payable to Kelly Hogaboom (PO Box 205 Hoquiam WA 98550).
Do you sew for grownups?
Yeah. But they have to be non-boring clothes.
Do you do work for free?
Yes, if the cause is right and I have the time! Feel free to contact me.
Do you do international shipping? What about insurance?
I can do both these things, but I do not pay for either. If insurance is not available or selected as per customer’s preference and there is a loss or damage to the piece, and you have paid for a piece, I will refund you half your payment.
Partnership:
Customers are responsible to take measurements of their children (unless the customer and I are geographically close enough I can do it myself). This needs to be done with the utmost care because it would be sad to receive a custom-sewn piece of art that won’t fit! I can send information on how to take measurements properly upon request.
Returns et cetera:
All work can be returned up to seven days past delivery date for a full refund, for any reason. Customer pays shipping costs.
Sewing is a deep love I’ve had since I was a child. I hope to clothe more human beings in well-loved clothes and spread the love of garment-sewing to as many as I can!
