I’ve worked pretty darn hard on costumes this year: Ralph, Sophie and I all have some beauts (not to mention I helped my friend Amy with her daughter’s costume, and my friend Jasmine with her ensemble as well). More pictures soon; currently I’m finishing up the homemade marshmallows for trick-or-treaters and about to take a drive out to the woods to find my mom’s boyfriend out in the woods and invite him over to hand out candy.
Here are some detail shots, for all my stitchin’ bitches.

Great outfit, but that Nelsie is so great too. I am in love with his finger positioning in the second to last shot.
Holy bejeebus! That’s the awesomest thing ever! I can wait to see pics of all the costumes!
He actually learned that finger positioning from all the old Bela Lugosi movies we watch!
Kelly, That Max costume is completely awesome! Owen was Max this year too. Our friends had a Where the Wild Things Are themed party and asked us to see if we could make him Max. I finally found a costume on Etsy. And it’s nowhere near as great as this one for Nels! Great job!
The ears are perfect!
Nels is exquisite. And the costume is absolutely perfect in every way. Thanks for all the detail shots; I salivated over every one.
Positively brilliant! How on earth did you make that!? It’s some brilliant costuming work – and looks like it’ll also last him for many a wild rumpus!
Rachel, thank you for the compliments. I did see Owen in his Max costume, over Ralph’s shoulder on his Facebook account. It sounds like a cool theme for a party!
Medrie & Dan, thanks! To answer your question Dan, I made it by self-drafting based on a couple simple patterns. I made a practice costume first out of barkcloth I’d been gifted. Then I made the real deal – and yes, I made it to last!
Ah! We made our local paper, with a mention in The Daily World
kelly, you continue to amaze me! bravo!
The detail on the suit is just breathtaking.
Thanks Mary, Jasie. I post all the detail shots for my many sewing friends.
Sometimes, I want to ask Ralph how you are, what you’re cooking, sewing, making fun of, etc. etc. through facebook. But at the same time… I don’t want to USE him. I should really just get the goods on here. duh. I posted(on FB) a new picture of our Where the Wild Things Are party, Everyone went all the way out on the costumes and it was great fun. We even showed up on the local news! Owen was crying the whole time because he was scared of the monsters. He’s not REALLY Max at all. 🙂
Go ahead and use Ralph; he’s used to it. I am also a Twitter-freak so you can add me there (if you use it).
