YETI- AND MONSTRER-RELATED BABY BOOTIES*
I made these using Shana Kreikemeier’s “Knit Monster Baby Booties” pattern, available from Ravelry. You can also view details of every bit of yarn I used (and some of my pattern/project changes) at my Ravelry project (META-DATA, drooool!).
Also, meet the three pair of briefs I made my brother (using Jalie 2327). These are prototypes, as A. I want to get the size right (I think these ended up a bit small) and B. making briefs on a regular sewing machine has its challenges (but my semi-broken serger and/or my serging skills are not up to the task).
So anyway, I’m calling these underwear “Pouchy”, for the awesome schlong-shaped front pattern pieces.
I had a great time sewing underwear. I hope these fit but if they don’t, they were great practice. Upon closer inspection you’d see they look way more homemade and shoddy than in the pictures here. But they are sturdy and crafted from very lovely, soft, red cotton knit.
* “Monstrer” is not a typo!
Those booties are the most adorable pieces of baby footwear EVER!!
very cute, all around!
Those booties are adorable! Great job! I will definitely have to make those for some little people in my life!
superfantasticBooties!
I would absolutely love a pair of these for my niece, I will pay:) Let’s make a deal! Do you make them for plus size Monstrers? I Love them I would wear them everywhere you are so creative I love it:)!!!!
Thanks for the compliments, all. Youth/adult sized monster booties would need more complex construction. I’m sort of mentally designing some… we’ll see if I can figure it out!
How lovely and adorable! I love baby-monsters…
I’m loving those booties. But I need to say, my husband would adore it if I learned to sew undies. His favorite type was discontinued. What a great idea!
@Lauren
Ralph only wears the underwear I sew – but in his case he likes boxers. Which take even more time to sew! (Then again I do them right – five panel, flat-felled seams, fly, etc).
Sewing underwear is super-fun but in some ways it’s even tricker than lots of other garment sewing!
Aww how much are the booties!! I may be able to save up some money and buy a pair for K!! Oh they are too adorable!
just wanted to say thanks for sharing these projects with us. i have found myself needing new underpants recently, and feeling pretty apprehensive about the prospect of sewing my own. now that i see you’ve done it (and thanks for linking to where you got the pattern), i might give it a try. i wonder if women’s/girls’ underpants would be any easier.
@maria
You’re welcome!
I think they are just about the same level of tricky. Practice makes perfect. I’ve written some good tips for knits recently. Cool thing about panties, even if you make mistakes and can’t use them you can donate them (as long as they’re finished and sturdy), plus they don’t use much fabric so even a total mistake “wastes” hardly anything! Oh and they’re fast!
As for Jalie, I really enjoyed this pattern and I love their LARGE size ranges. Toddler thru extra large people all in one pattern!
