Update: the streaming class is available here on Facebook.
Happy February – my birthday month! Why yes, I have a birthday wishlist. And I accept plain ol’ cash, to boot. Dziękuję!
So enough self-promotion; on to business! We had a lovely time sewing socks last month; for February and March we are kicking it up a notch with some lingerie! Specifically, a pair of briefs.
Each sewing lesson is built upon the skills of the last. To that end, here is the January materials list, and the January livestream. I do not advise skipping lessons!
Ready? Let’s go!
For February’s class, besides learning a bit more about knit-sewing, we are also going to be using a rotary cutter and mat. The rest of my “Seams Legit” classes will assume rotary cutting. And please – don’t panic! Panties are the perfect garment to practice rotary cutting. Make several pair! During March’s bralette project will finesse our skills even more. While there are many videos out there demonstrating rotary cutting, I will be talking over it while livestreaming too. Find a mat and a cutter – invest in yourself! You want a 36″ by 24″ mat and a 45mm rotary cutter.
So! Let’s talk panties!
There are a whole heckuva lot of underwear patterns out there. A whole lot! Free, PDF, paper, et cetera. Here is a list of fifty patterns as listed on tailormadeblog. And these fifty are from a post that is almost two years old; there have been many more added to the list since!
For the purposes of this sewing lesson, I’m going to be using Ellie & Mac’s “Feel Frisky” pattern. The pattern features low, mid, and high-rise options. It also features a plain or ruched back; I will be demonstrating both back styles during the livestream on the 28th. “Feel Frisky” is a new pattern, just released last month; it comes with layer capability, the A0 print shop size, and the following size range:
Waist: 23 1/2″ to 56″
Hip: 33 1/2″ to 63″
The pattern includes incredibly detailed instructions for materials selection, which I won’t repeat here. My advice is that you purchase the pattern, print it off, pour a cup of coffee or tea, and read through it. Don’t worry too much if you are overwhelmed; just get as familiar as comfortable, and RSVP to my link!
SUPPLIES:
Rotary cutter and mat
Sewing machine with balanced zig zag; sewing machine manual
Thread and ballpoint, jersey, or stretch needle
4-way stretch fabric (as pER the “feel frisky” pattern notes)
3/8″ or 1/2” elastic (knit, picot, or lingerie)
See you on the 22nd!
Gonna make some undies!! Fundies!!
Loving the name of that pattern. And I always like a midway decent excuse to buy some fabric.
Maybe I can scoop up some more sock knits while I’m there.
Yes! Post me your fabric choices. I’m excited to see them!
