I blogged a bit about construction on my site; I am also working on a full tutorial for sewing a blazer, which will be published on my blog this spring.
This jacket is fully-lined and underlined for warmth and stability. It is the perfect spring and fall jacket for the Pacific Northwest. I fell in love with the shell fabrics on site; both colorways have a soft hand, wonderful drape, and a thick knit backing. The judicious use of underlining on the body while omitting underlining for the sleeves means the jacket has a formal-looking structure but is as comfortable to wear as a hoodie.
The hip-length jacket features a two piece sleeve, a welt left-side lapel pocket on the front breast; also an inner welt pocket, two mock-pocket flaps at the waist, two bound buttonholes, large vintage buttons, and extra-long sleeves for warmth and growing room (they can be folded up for daily wear). If the recipient is left-handed, please let me know and I can transfer the functional pockets to the right side of the coat.
This jacket is made specifically for the recipient, including the child’s measurements. One of my pleasures in life is sewing for children so their clothes fit better, and last longer, than anything you can get off the rack. Please visit either the Flickr tagset or the blog post to read more about the garment and construction.
