Summer Swimsuit Sew-Along!

A sew-along finished last month: and one coming up!

On June 15th we will be starting up our summer dress in double-gauze. I have created three versions of this lovely fit-and-flare from Bootstrap. The pattern is $2.99 and comes entirely customized to fit, with or without seam allowances, and in any print format you prefer. I’m a huge fan of Bootstrap and I have extolled their virtues time and time again!

Now, the pattern’s design sketch showcases a mid-to-heavyweight, tweedy fabric:

However as you can see from my samples, I am showcasing in a double gauze. This makes for a casual, comfortable effect. The dress still has very feminine shaping, with a fullness in the hips and narrow waist. However, it performs like a well-loved garment that’s been washed and-re-washed and sun-dried. No wonder I’m having so many requests!

Double-gauze is a wonderful fabric; it handles well, as it is cotton, and has some body and not so much drape. The fabric instantly delivers an elegance and vintage/heirloom appeal that is going to turn heads. There are so many places to get double-gauze, and I’ll be talking more about this in the set-up post for the dress sew-along. But some sources to get you way too excited interested: imagine gnats, fabric.com, fabricworm, Harts Fabric, and various Etsy shops (for your timeline, watch for where they ship from!).

Elevation Hoodie Sew-Along

elevation hoodie sew-along: constructing the body & pockets

Weather here this time of year is gorgeous. That said, it’s hard to find a Pacific Northwest season that isn’t hoodie-friendly. Even in the hottest of our August days, a lightweight hoodie is perfect for those late summer nights. I am adoring my Nature’s Fabrics bamboo french terry (NAYY – just love their stuff!). It is the perfect weight – midweight, heavier than a heavy t-shirt but not hoodie weight. I am reminded that delicious bespoke benefits from high-quality fabrics!

Tea & Crumpet Sew-Along

tea & crumpet sew-along: the collar and lining

Tea & Crumpet Sew-Along

Hello and welcome to day five of our sew-along – our penultimate post! Today we will be installing collar and lining. For this entry, you will need:

1. Your constructed dress shell and lining
2. Your collar pieces

In our last entry we finished our back closure. We should have a constructed shell and lining, and our collar pieces. Our construction order will depend on the collar we’ve used – the asymmetrical or tie collar options. For the assymetrical collar, we put the collar in and then the lining; for the tie-collar, we install the lining first.

Ready? We’re in the home stretch! You can do it!

Pattern Testing
What you can expect: a detailed sew-along suitable for beginners or advanced stitchers. For those new (or new-ish) to sewing with knit fabrics, this is an especially-appropriate project. We’re working with midweight knits with good recovery. They can be sewn on a lock-stitch machine (read: a “regular sewing machine”) – no serger required!

The pattern currently comes in two versions: a children’s version (size 6/12mos. to 16), as well as a women’s version (bust 31″ to 51 1/2″). The pattern will also soon debut a men’s pattern!

And – great news! – Nature’s Fabrics have once again graced us with their partnership. They are offering a 10% off coupon code to participants in the sew-along. I will warn you though; their fabrics are addicting. I highly recommend the bamboo stretch fleece, or the bamboo stretch terry (the latter is shown in the supply list below). All you need to do to get your coupon code is to email me and sign up for the sew-along!
